Aaron advises on legal and public policy issues related to government and third party requests for user data, including issues related to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (“ECPA”) and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (“FISA”). He assists Internet companies and other clients with their compliance obligations and transparency reports related to the use and disclosure of user information. Aaron works with ZwillGen’s compliance professionals and supervising attorneys to design and implement customized legal process outsourcing solutions for companies that want more hands-on assistance in responding to requests for user data.
Aaron also counsels clients on data security legal issues, such as data breach notification requirements and incident response management in the event of a security breach.
Prior to joining ZwillGen, Aaron spent three years as Vice President & Associate General Counsel for Global Law Enforcement and Security at Yahoo. While at Yahoo, Aaron led a team of 35 attorneys and legal professionals responsible for global law enforcement and data security legal issues across both Yahoo and Tumblr. Aaron also developed and implemented Yahoo’s internal policies and procedures for handling government (criminal and national security) requests.
Additionally, Aaron worked with Yahoo’s Public Policy team and served as their external lead in engaging globally with senior government officials, industry colleagues, and civil society on law enforcement policy matters.
Prior to his time at Yahoo, Aaron was an Assistant General Counsel at Verizon, where he helped run the Verizon Enterprise Solutions corporate compliance program, and subsequently advised the global enterprise business on a broad range of international legal issues. Before joining Verizon, Aaron practiced at Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP and Steptoe & Johnson LLP.
